Ugh. References. I remember my highschool English teacher mentioning once that a former student of hers asked for a reference once, so it's a pretty common practice. (Said teacher was however the worst English teacher I've ever had the pleasure of knowing, so I wondered why someone wanted to have her write an English reference letter)

A person I know that used to work in the library here, moved to Dublin and needed references too, so someone from the library wrote her one that was very flaterring even though the referee has nothing but criticism on the poor girl while she had worked there.

yeah, they want a personal ref, and the woman on the phone kept telling me to contact my uni, which um, no, cause all they've to go on is my terrible record of attendance, whereas my English teacher, if she remembers me, will remember me as being very good at English and nice and all.

Hate references. hate all these hoops I have to jump through.

Well, if nothing else, she can look back through my records and vouch for my good grades in English. (Seeing as how my sixth year report card somehow completely disappeared from the face of the earth and all, that's a good thing.)

They asked for a "personal reference", which can be a friend of the family, my doctor, etc. I'm going with that teacher because she liked me and gave me the "prize" for English when I graduated, so. :)
