So I spent a huge amount of money on new boots and a new (lovely!) dress today, and I'm wallowing in my filth over here, but hey, new boots! New dress! :D

I could, but that wouldn't return the €180 wouldn't it ? Unless you put the dress on ebay, brand new, never worn, and try to make €300 out of it or something. Then buy work clothes with the income.

Not really, as long as I look decent and don't wear T-shirts with slogans. Unfortunately, that eliminates about 80% of my wardrobe.
