Now taking votes/suggestions re: naming my Alphasmart! And since I'm also going to get a new computer some time this year, I thought I'd name them in tandem.

[Poll #243495]

ETA: It's really annoying that I can't edit polls, because now I've realised who's missing! Gimli (and Legolas)! *facepalm*

Some explanations are possibly in order, here ... Since the AS will be following me around everywhere, I figured Gríma would be an appropriate name, and with Gríma comes Éowyn, of course. I'm not sure if the AS looks like a Celeborn, but considering that he's the trophy husband, the idea amuses me. "Sam", again, would be following me faithfully, although I'm not too sure about naming my computer after Frodo for reasons mentioned below re: the Twins.

On to the HP options, then! Ron the Brave charging with me where angels fear to thread, and Hermione the Wise and Stable. Speaks for itself, I think. :D I'm not sure about either of the twins options, not only because it implies the two are interchangeable (and the AS and the computer surely aren't) but also because naming anything electronic after a pair of merry pranksters is just inviting trouble, I think, and after two years of living with a computer named "Justin" and all the resulting diva fits ("Fucking Timberlake!") I've sort of learned my lesson.

I vote for Grima and Eowyn. :-)

Celeborn and Galadriel are too difficult to write and to pronounce; Sam and Frodo is a bit too tacky (and there probably are a lot of people calling their computer Frodo or Sam these days); Ron and Hermione (I like Hermione for a name but not Ron; I might even call my next computer Hermione *g*); Fred and George will get you into trouble.

My laptop downstairs is called "Skywalker" for obvious reasons and my upstairs computer is just named after myself, except for the brief interval in which he was called "C:".

Re:

Good points, all, and I was leaning towards Gríma and Éowyn myself already, because Creepy Het OTP, yo! :D But thank you for the support! ^_^

I should not read the words "trophy husband" while reading RP bondage porn in a separate window, because I just got the most frightening image of Celeborn in a (pretty white) collar, getting led down the stairs by Galadriel. I think I actually felt my brain explode in my head. And now I share the image with you. Bwah!

Ahahaha. I did pick George (and Fred). I don't know, they're the only names that sound right to me. They may be trouble -- but they're fun. Which really can't be said of Gríma. I'd be totally creeped out to have a computer called Gríma. And, wait a minute, you think that one would be reliable?? It'd probably break down on you on the moment you least expect it. Celeborn and Galadriel. Well. Never liked Galadriel in the movie. Don't like elves in general. And hell, I wouldn't want to walk around with apparature that's supposed to be superior to me. *grumbles about measley servants* Also, yeah, way too complicated. Sam and Frodo, as much as I love them: way too cheesy. And confusing. Like, wait, what Sam was I talking about?
Ron and Hermione. Hahaaa. You think Fred and George is asking for trouble? Man, you're supposed to connect the Alphasmart to the computer, right? Um, no offence, but I bet the line would never work. They'd be constantly arguing, man. Sheesh. And you try and reconcile them.
Fred and George, however, work in perfect harmony. Also, they're perfect equals, no reason for your computer or your Alphasmart to get jealous. And they may be pranksters, but they're also fiercely loyal -- they'd never let you down in a moment of need. (There may, of course, be many hiccups along the way.) And I don't know, just thinking 'Fred and George' puts me in a good, fun mood, which none of the other names can achieve. I picked 'George' for the Alphasmart, because that's more of a classic name, I think, and since the Alphasmart can basically do less than the computer... (Haha.)

This poll is amazing, really. Three different votes, and each of them represents 50% of the total votes. Wow. Must go brush up on my maths.

Re:

Ooh, wait, now we've got five votes with each representing 25%. Whoo. LJ came up with an entire new maths system. Am so impressed.

Re:

The percentage is the number of people who've voted for that option relative to how many people took the poll in total. You can pick more than one option. :)

And, wait a minute, you think that one would be reliable?? It'd probably break down on you on the moment you least expect it.

Hm, that's a point. Although the AS has three year guarantee, and it's mainly the main computer I'm worried about. Although with Gríma and Éowyn I'd risk them never talking to each other, which would be a pain (see also: Ron and Hermione). Something to consider, for sure!

It's really annoying that I can't edit polls, because now I've realised who's missing! Gimli (and Legolas)!

That's a good point. Éowyn and Gríma might be risking the computer never acknowledging the AS, but Hermione!computer would probably make AS!Ron whimper and flutter.

Fred and George, however, work in perfect harmony. Also, they're perfect equals, no reason for your computer or your Alphasmart to get jealous.

But the computer and the AS aren't the same! Each has their own strengths and weaknesses!

I picked 'George' for the Alphasmart, because that's more of a classic name, I think, and since the Alphasmart can basically do less than the computer... (Haha.)

Funny you say that, because in my brain, Fred = the smart one. Of course, Fred = also the mean one, which was part of the reason why I didn't really want to name the computer that.

I vote for Gimli and Legolas. Because you totally need a prissy computer, and also, OTP!

From: [identity profile] bubosquared.livejournal.com

Re:

But Gr&iamcute;ma and Éowyn are my (Creepy) Het OTP! Although, what with the size difference and all, Legolas and Gimli would be quite apt. Hee hee!

Dude, the computer is the brains of the outfit, and the AS is very, um, mobile and willing to do dirty work? I dunno. It just seems to me that the computer must be Hermione, which makes the AS Ron. Or maybe, say, Neville.

From: [identity profile] bubosquared.livejournal.com

Re:

See, I like the idea of Hermione!Computer, but AS!Ron ... meh. Right now, it looks like it'll be either Gimli (and Legolas) or Gríma (and Éowyn).

(Considering the greenish colour, I suppose the AS could be Marcus, but that would make the computer Oliver, and I would like my computer to be smarter than the average rock, you know?)

From: [identity profile] babyofthegroup.livejournal.com

Re:

::sobs:: But the computer could be Percy! And then you'd have Percy interfacing with Marcus, and the possibilities... Also, then your mouse could be Oliver and the keyboard could be Cedric... Theirloveissotragic.

I am quite fond of Gimli & Legolas. Which I would have voted for had it been an option.
