*eyes TV* Christ, I can't believe how much this image is ingrained in my memory, considering that I wasn't even born yet (and wouldn't be for another fifteen years) when this was aired.

Ahaha -- I take it you're referring to the scene accompanying that song you're quoting above. I haven't seen it tonight, but yeah, I can remember it, too. *g* I love the snarky smartass who thought of putting that song onto that scene (I'm assuming it's the film with those men, er, working?).

I haven't seen it either. Just small bursts on tv yesterday. It's like the joke I guess. "I love working, I can watch it for hours."

*snickers* I didn't know that one. :-)

It was on TV yesterday? Oh, I thought it might have had something to do with 50 Jaar TV... which is aired, um, I have no idea what day. *g* But I've seen that clip many times before -- men leaning on their shovels, watching just one of them work. Practically illustrates your joke. :-)

It was actually on TV tonight, with explanations and mini-interviews with the people who'd worked on it, and the original "kasseistampers". To be fair, the men didn't actually have to be working that day, because it was too cold to be able to do much of anything at the time. But it's still such a classic image, isn't it?

When they were working on the Wetstraat this summer, I spent many a pleasant smoke break watching people work. Consequentially, I had that song in my head for three weeks in a row.

Are you that close to the wetstraat ?

Hey, I'm having dinner with a friend in Brussels on Thursday February the 5th. She's staying at the Meridian near Central station with her husband. Would you like to come along and show us a decent restaurant in the area ? Preferrably one where we don't have to spend a quarter of our monthly wages ?

My friend is from Brazil and she knew a lot of gay friends over there, we even stayed at their house when I was there three years ago, she'll love me for bringing you with me ;-)

We're meeting at 18:30 at the hotel, I'm coming by train and leaving back home by train too. You'll just have to stay a little late I guess, if you're up for it.

My job is on de wetstraat, yeah. Don't know too many restaurants in Brussels, I fear, and I think I'll have to check about meeting up, but it sounds cool. :)

Oh, OK. I didn't know that. I suppose it redeems them somewhat. :-) I think I've only ever seen fragments myself -- I have but a few images in my mind when I think of it. I never heard them say they weren't actually supposed to work. :-) It's the kind of thing they occasionally show on The Leukste Eeuw and the like, and I suppose they only show the funniest moments. Still, yeah, a classic. Every time I hear that song, I have to think of those images. It's not the best song to motivate me to work. *g*

*snickers* Well, thank goodness it isn't a really bad song (at least, I don't think it is -- it always just amuses me because of that clip... even though, if memory serves right, the lyrics talk about something rather different). And Louis Neefs has got a good voice. :-)

Were those workers that slow then, that they reminded you of the song?

Also, I have the actual clip (though not the interviews) on tape if you want to watch it on Saturday.

That would be fun! Then we can all get a laugh together. :-)

Yeah, well, I think it was tonight like Sofie said. But they showed a tiny little part of what they were going to show today... Yesterday. Ya know, like a they do with teasers and trailers for the movies ?

Ah, OK. I've been watching too little TV lately. :-)

See my reply to [livejournal.com profile] rane_ab, they weren't actually that lazy, but still. Such a classic, man.
