This song was one of the first I've ever heard by Metallica. It came out when I was 11, and the first time I heard it was through my brother. I loved it immediately. I borrowed his tape of TBA, and dubbed this and The Unforgiven. For a long time, those were the only Metallica songs I listened to, because I was far more interested in Dylan, and the Beatles, and pop, and punk, and alternative. But every now and then, I'd come across them on a tape, and love them all over again.
And if I hadn't known Metallica, if I hadn't loved these songs, I never would've gotten into Metallica slash, and I never would've become a fan. I hardly ever listen to those two songs anymore, because I like the harder songs better, but it came up on my winamp just now and I was struck by the memory of how much I loved and love it. It makes me want to go up to my friends and hug them, and tell them exactly how much they mean to me.
You know who you are. I love you all. You're the greatest.
