... And as I'm making that list, my dad forwards me a message about permanent hair dye causing cancer. Um. Then again, doesn't everything? I'm a vegetarian, I don't drive, I'm in pretty decent physical shape, I give to charity, and I don't write mpreg, so I'm allowed to have two small vices. Anything could get you killed. And yeah, I should stop smoking, but I'm not about to go back to my natural hair colour, although I'm currently about thisclose to clipping it all off again because I AM GOING INSANE!!!!11!!!1!!
dreadlocks, dreadlocks, dreadlocks, dreadlocks, dreadlocks, dreadlocks, dreadlocks, dreadlocks, dreadlocks, dreadlocks, dreadlocks, ...
Okay, important questions for all USAians:
- I need a state to set Ravenswood (the small town where SL takes place) in. It should be fairly cold -- so, northish, and probably on/near the East Coast, since they're touring for one/two months, and they pass through Athens, Georgia. The possibility of there being a small townwith a lake and a (pine, I believe) wood is also a necessity. Suggestions?
- Explain the concept of community colleges to me. What's the difference between community colleges and universities/"plain" colleges? How do they work?

You know, I kept hearing that from one of my co-workers, whose boyfriend/husband has been struggling with cancer for years. Of course, she still dyes her hair (and chain-smokes) and we decided that we'd never be able to completely avoid carcinogens anyway, unless, say, we left Earth for another planet (with an intact ozone layer) and became hermits there. And, er, probably not even then. (I also argued that, well, average life expectancy for people who're 30 today is 100 years anyway, and we need something to kill us, right? People a hundred years ago didn't have E### in everything they ate or let in contact with their skin, but they still died at 40.)
Of course, none of that kept me from feeling a bit nervous over redying my hair yesterday, but hey.

Community or "junior" colleges are small local colleges which most frequently provide technical/job skills classes/training, and entry-level or basic undergraduate credit classes.
They most often provide required undergraduate credits for much less money than private/state colleges/universities, and many people without tons of money choose this route, then transfer to university for the remaining 2 years.
They can also be a resource for people wanting job-related training, or those who have a specific interest in taking classes in things like cooking or photography.
