*giggles happily* *locks your mind in the porny place* *throws away key*
But seriously, look at him! That is such a "heh, I just got laid" face. And his hair looks a bit like someone's been running thier fingers through it, or gripping it. ;)
*whimper* I was going to go see 8 Mile today. I was in line for tickets when they sold out. I was surprisingly distressed about it. I wish I'd taken a camera to take a picture of the lobby full of suburban white boys over 17 (they were checking IDs) who were waiting for tickets. I did get a ticket for tomorrow morning's showing. Perhaps I will buy Royals books at the book sale and make a fangirl day out of it.
Aww, bad! But at least you get to see it today. People have been saying it's actually rather good, but I'd go see it even it if's crap. (Who am I kidding? I'd go see it especially if it were crap. I have this odd thing for trashy movies. I loved Dungeons and Dragons, for fuck's sake.)
Oh, don't worry, I don't usually care about spoilers.
Oh! Something I wsa wondering re: your post about the movie, especially the part about his mother being (sexually) abusive of him, and him wanting to protect his movie-little-sister from that.
Since this movie is semi-(auto)biographically about Em, do you think the little sister represents Haylie Jade (help, spelling? Should not be up still), whom Em tries to protect from Kim, or his (half?)brother Nate being protected from their mother, or both?
(Yeah, i don't know why I'm wondering about this, either.)
It's semi-(auto)biographical, and my take on it is that they smushed Hailie Jade and Nathan into one character.
About the abuse thing: There's something about the way she looks at him and the way she talks to him about her sex life that made me think she sexually abused him, although I doubt the moviemakers intended that and I don't think that anyone else would see it that way. Well, except maybe for Molly, but she's twisted that way. But anyone with any sense of what a healthy/functional family dynamic is will be able to see that they're a dysfunctional family.
I think that in terms of what the moviemakers are thinking, Rabbit's trying to protect Lily from the neglect that seems to be what's most clearly abusive in terms of what we see the mother do with Lily.
So I don't know how much of that is taken from Em's real life. I think his family was definitely dysfunctional, but I don't know how abusive Debbie really was.
Another issue around Lily: Rabbit tries to give her as much love and protection as he can, but he also hates living in his mother's trailer and does everything in his power to be away as much as possible, so he's also stuck in this cycle of neglect
