I have the same dilemma approaching (mine runs out on 24th August). While I don't really use any of the paid account features other than search by region (and interest - is that a paid account feature?), the improved reliability I don't know if I can live without. But. I never paid for my own account in the first place - I don't really agree with having to pay for the service - and I'm broke.
No switching to Greymatter, though, you! Not that I've anything against it on principle, just that I never ever remember to check the journals of people who've transferred.
