Belgium plays Brazil this afternoon, and temperatures are expected to rise to a blistering 32°C. Just shoot me now, please?

Turkish grocer gets shot. Turkish people march in protest of the police's (supposed) lack of vigour in persuing the killer. Melle sighs and laments the sad state of humanity.

Heh. The Fast and the Furious comes to Belgium? Police have arrested about sixty people who were racing in the parking lot of a mall just outside Antwerp.

Life in Belgium is expected to get really slow between 13:30 and 15:30 (local time) as Belgium plays Brazil. Most workplaces allow TVs or radios to be brought in to watch/listen to the match. Lots of schools are suspending classes and letting students watch the game. Ministers are taking the train to work so their chauffeurs can watch the game.

This is why I love this country -- FOOTBALL FEVER! Whooo!

Not that I have any illusions re: our chances of beating Brazil, but you know, this has been a World Cup of surprises. France is out, Argentina's out, Italy's out, we got into the second round. Hell, even Michael Owen agrees that nothing is final and you never know, we might end up beating Brazil. And facing England in the quarter finals. In which case I shall end up thoroughly confusing everyone around me by cheering for both teams at once.

I know, I know, but. Dude, I want Belgium to win -- we've gotten to the semi-finals before, and if we'd even just get into the finals, I would be one happy Belgian. But on the other hand, if we kick England out of the Cup, I'll have to wait until September, when the Euro2004 qualifiers begin, to see more Becks/Owen, and argh! Not to mention, a whole bunch of people would hate me. (Linz, for one. Leena for another.)

Aaaand the US are 0-2 ahead against Mexico. Dude, next thing you know, they'll actually be playing the Quarter finals! What was I saying about a World Cup of surprises? O

Yes, and everyone also said that France has no chance against them last year and we all know what happened then.
On a different but still football related topic.Michael and David- Did you hear of this quote in british newspsper the sunday people.
"Beckham kissed all three goalscorers. Asked how posh would react he laughed and said, "As long as they are boys she wouldn't be bothered."

Re:

Exactly! And dude, the USA is almost certainly into the Quarter Finals, so who knows what else is gonna happen today?

To be honest, I'd not be too heartbroken if we got kicked, as long as we put up a good fight. I'd feel a lot worse if Brazil (or, hell, Belgium) would kick England. Because. David! Michael! Squee!

Also, *squeal* More proof of my utterly random theory that Victoria Beckham is a slasher.

WOO! We WON! (I hate you, Melle. This is all your fault.)

I have a sneaky feeling that the US entry into the quarterfinals is not the last surprise of this world cup. The way Brazil played in qualifiers lets me believe that Belgium can surprise Brazil. I'll be cheering for Belgium, best of fortune to you and your squad!

Re:

Hee. Thanks. :) I think we can at least give Brazil a run for their money, especially if we play like we did on Friday. Attack, attack, attack, but don't neglect the defense. :)

... I just talked about football tactics as if I know anything about them at all. Help! I'm turning into a realy fan! *runs around in distress*
