(One last thing. Tam and Meimi aren't the only ones expressing pro-American sentiments. And yes, it smarts every time, but all other times I was able to shrug it off. I dunno. Maybe they caught me at a bad time or something. Just. Zarya, I am so not angry at you. Ever. At all. Amy, you're still on my friends list. The rest of you, please don't feel like you should watch what you're saying. Just remember, if I suddenly delete you from my friends list, I'm not angry with you, I'm just panicy and scared, and once this is over, I will add you back. K?)

We're used to thinking of ourselves as invulnerable. We're used to feeling safe here. And though this was an attack on all civilized people, it took place on our soil. I think that is why it has galvanized us, why it has stirred our patriotism so fiercely. It doesn't mean that we think the lives of victims of terrorism in other parts of the world are worth less. But at this moment, when the shock and the anger are still so intense, we are focussing on what is closest to home, in the physical sense.
That's my interpretation of what's going on, anyway.
