The exciting story involves a 12-year-old boy who lived on a farm in rural Massachusetts, got into some kind of an accident involving the house furnace and severely burned both his legs. He was at a local hospital for about 3 weeks, fell into a coma and was transferred to my mother's hospital in Boston, where they noticed as they took him in on the stretcher that his bandages...were moving around on his legs. Upshot was that the local hospital hadn't changed his bandages for *three weeks,* all the flesh had died and when they unwrapped it, there were so many maggots you literally couldn't see his actual legs. A whole team of nurses and doctors went straight for vomitsville and he had to have both legs amputated above the knee.

So...yes, maggots live off meat. All *kinds* of meat. [shudder]
