Well, fuck you too, Ruth. What's all this you said about misinterpretation again?

*shakes head*

Holy 'Needs to Get a Clue' Batman!

Unlike obviously some people, I read your whole entry. That last statement was merely vilifying the entire thing as a whole. But then, you know that.

Oh, but I'd better stop. The *fragile sensibilities* will get ruffled.

Awww, screw that! As one person said recently, "friendship politics suck". I think I'm a pretty tolerant person overall, but it just burns me when people b&m about being attacked unjustly and that they're "misunderstood". This after ripping into people for gratification and to make themselves feel big.

But then what do I know. I'm just a "mindless minion" with "no opinion of my own". And to think I thought I'd gotten over this months ago. *sigh*

if you're judging fanfic based purely on the fandom...then you're prejudiced pure and simple

I didn't read your other entry in it's entirety or in context, but my interpretation of what you are saying is that if you *dismiss* or are *derogatory* about fanfic based soley on the fandom, that's prejudice.

But that's entirely different from being disinterested in a fandom, which apparently she is. For example, I'm not interested in The Sentinel fandom, but I acknowledge and appreciate that there are several great writers in that fandom.

But that's quite different from saying "this fandom is crap, so, therefore, is all the fanfic", which, as you say, is prejudice. Yet Ruth seems to be equating loathing of all fanfic based on fandom as the *same* thing as merely being disinterested in that fandom.

Certainly, everyone is free to hit the delete button if they're not interested in a story, a writer, or a fandom. But that is not the same thing as outright derision of an entire fandom, which I believe is probably the point you were trying to make.

That's exactly what I'm trying to say. My exact quote, btw, was:
And frankly, if you're judging fanfic based purely on the fandom, if you're judging writers as people as as artists based on the fandom, then you're prejudiced, pure and simple. And frankly, if you're judging fanfic based purely on the fandom, if you're judging writers as people as as artists based on the fandom, then you're prejudiced, pure and simple.
and taking out that middle bit just warps what I actually said.

Becuase hey, I'm not interested in some fandoms and pairings either. For example, I am ont all about the JoLa (Joey/Lance). I'l read it and if it's a good story, I'm likely to like it, but it doesn't niggle me the way, say, Chris/Joey does. In Metallica fandom, I delete anything Kirk/James, because they don't work for me as a pairing (anymore), but I don't go around claiming that all Kirk/James stories suck, nor do I look down on people who write it, which is what people were doing with NSync fandom, which was what inspired the entry with the above quote.
