I have a new computer! Now I just have to put it all together, which, er, fills me with dread. O_O I don't suppose anyone in Edinburgh would be willing to come and do it for me some time in the next hour or so? I'll feed you! *hopeful look* (Yeah, didn't think so. *goes to google instructions*)
[ETA]Phase One of Operation: New Computer has been completed successfully. It doesn't have a Hard Drive yet or anything, but I managed to not zap the processor or motherboard with static electricity (I'm kinda sensitive to that, though much less so now that I have no short hair), install the motherboard, connect all the fiddly little cables (OMG HATE!), install the graphics card I've had lying around for eighteen goddamned months (... long story involving me being stupid), and boot up the computer. It works. I may have yelled "Oh, YES!" rather loudly. Possibly.
Now, we begin Phase Two, in which I install the hard drive and CD/DVD/floppy drives, as well as assorted cards (USB and dialup modem, pretty much), and configure the motherboard. I've backed up the hard drive (thank you, iPod!) and noted all the programmes I have installed, because I'm going to format the hard drive and reinstall Windows anyway (I want to start completely from scratch), but if all goes well I should be able to start up straight away. And even if all doesn't go well, this is the phase in which I cannot permanently screw something up anymore.[/ETA]
[ETA2] Posting this from my phone because the hard drive is formatting, sigh. Oh well, I was going to do that anyway, so as long as this means it'll work then, I'll just have to be patient. [ETA2]
