Foot-in-Mouth Disease Claims Another Victim -- Read All About It!

So the other day, on one of my list, there was this minor splat thing. Person A said something that, to me, sounded insulting to het writers. Person B reacted to that, maybe a little too strongly. Listmum told them to cool it down, and amonished the both of them, although she devoted a whole paragrapg to Person B and one sentence to Person A. I got the impression, apparently wrongly, that a) she was cutting the disucssion off; b) this was therefore an ADMIN post; c) she was taking sides in said ADMIN post.

So, I composed an private email to Person B, telling her I agreed, and bla bla bla, and I bitched a little about listmum taking sides in ADMIN post, and the email was rather more bitchy than it would've been if it'd been meant for the list, but hey, I get to be irrational in private email, right? Except I managed to send it to the list.

Ooops.

Okay, so I got chatised, I deserved that. And I was gonna apologize for the wording and the mistake, while still making it clear that I still stand behind the content of that email. But then today Person A is considering unsubbing because she doesn't want to stay somewhere where she's going to be 'attacked' for what she says and fuck it, I don't care enough about this issue or this list to become involved in yet another fight about wether or not fandom should be a 'nice place'.

I left. I've got one big fight to worry about, and I'm sure the 'deth boards have enough non-fandom discussions for me to get involved in, and this one just wasn't worth it. I'm going as far as disabling comments on this post because to me, this issue is closed. If you think I'm a cowardly bitch, think all you want. Maybe I am. But I'm a cowardly bitch with better things to bitch about.

One of these days, I promise, I'll do a general entry about fandom, and what people expect from it, and how different expectations cause the majority of fandom wars. Until then, here's my motto for fandom:

If you can't say anything nice, at least have the guts to say it.
