My throat started feeling sore-ish yesterday and got worse as the evening wore on, so I took a LemSip before bed, and now it's worse. sore throat, painful chesty cough, voice half gone, and I can't call in sick because I'm already on probation for too many sick days, and blaaaaaargh.

You can be on probation for too many sick days...? That's... well, not right.

At work, obviously, not, like, with the law. And yeah, we don't have to bring in doctor's notes, but we can't take off too much time in any six-month period, sadly. (This leads to people coming in to work sick and spreadying their germs, of course, which is likely why I'm in this mess in the first place, but there you go.)

that's just weird. So if you had pneumonia, you'd just keep on working? Or would a doctor's note give you absolution?

They count incidences of absence, so if you're off sick for two weeks (like I was earlier) or even more (one guy in my team was off sick for six weeks), they won't do anything since it's just one absence.

For up to five working days, you can 'self-certify', anything more than that you need a note from the doctor.

*raises hand*

Chesty cough...definitely got that. It seems to be spreading round.

Ask nicely, and I'm sure someone will rub it better for you!

Odd. Though I can imagine it's sometimes handy. I wouldn't feel like going to the doctor for a migraine since there's fuck all he can do about it anyway and it costs me a visit.

Visiting the doctor here doesn't cost anything: yay for the NHS.

True, true. For us it comes to some 8 Euro. But then again we can get checked into a hospital for tests within 10 minutes as opposed to 10 months ;-)

Thanks goodness germs don't pass over the internet... Yet.

Hey, what did you think of the Elections ?

I think it's safe to come back to Antwep now, VB is halted and your precious SP.A had a major hand in that. Sure, us greens haven't made much of an impact but Mr. Jansens is praising us for the good work anyway so yay, I guess we win too. I'm not in Antwerp ofcourse, not sure why the Greens are going in the opposition benches in Antwerp but I'm sure we won't make it as messy as those other people we have to share them with.

No remorse that you left ?

No more greens in Jabbeke's city council either :(
