*flops* It's taken me an hour and a half, but the lounge is clean and dry again, and mostly rearranged so that as much as possible is out of harm's way in case the ceiling decides to belatedly come down. The kitchen's still a bit of a mess, but that's mostly nothing to do with the leak, and I have at least one load of laundry to do, but that'll wait until after [livejournal.com profile] dantesvendetta's visit. Overall, not bad, though not exactly how I'd prefer to spend a sick day. :/

In terms of permanent damage, I came off lucky, it seems. Some of my books got splashed when the "bubble" burst, and my desk is looking somewhat worse for wear, but thanks to whatever deity looks after insomniacs, I woke up just as it was starting to drip, and managed to save my computer and stuff, and haul the chairs and table mostly out of the way. As miserable as I was last night, it would've been a lot worse had I not been awake for it, because the big splash of water when the "bubble" burst was right where my computer would've been. Yeah. The panicked "OH FUCK!" all-hands-on-deck scrambling and the visions of having to replace my computer barely a day after buying it, when I saw the trickling leak was bad enough, thanks. I took pictures for my landlady, for insurance purposes, some of which you can see here.

So now I go and clean the kitchen, stack the crap I had to move to my bedroom somewhat better, and start preparing dinner. Mags, I'm looking forward to that cake you promised!

[ETA] Hm, I stand corrected, it looks like the (laminatre) floor's taken some minor damage as well, which I suppose is partially my fault for not mopping up before going to bed last night, but it's not that bad--the only reason I even noticed was because I was standing on it in bare feet and felt the slightly raised seams. Still, should remember to tell the owners that.

Also, dear iTunes: I know I put you on shuffle, but Johnny Cash followed by Kate Bush is a bit too random, even for me. [/ETA]

Have you got a portable heater thing you can put under the burst ceiling bit to dry it out? Much more likely to stay up if it gets dry quickly...

The sound of dripping water where you know there shouldn't be any seems to be a very effective wake up call. That was kinda impressive back when my roof leaked.

Only good the computer wasn't hurt.

I'm usually a pretty heavy sleeper though, is the thing. Still, whatever the reason, I'm glad I woke up when I did. *cuddles computer*

The ceiling's up too high even if I did have a heater thingie, unfortunately. :/ It doesn't look like it's taken any damage, though, and there's no drywall against it that could come down, so I'm pretty sure I'll be fine, but still, better safe than sorry, you know? :)

But that Bob Dylan song is my favorite!

I'm sorry about your flat. Your landlord better freakin' fix everything!

Oh, my landlady is fabulous and helpful and really quick about repairs, and will probably know wether I can claim damages for my desk from Upstairs Bloke's (or rather, his rental agency's) insurance. :)

Yup, cake will be brought. And other things. :D

See you soonish!

omg, melle. :o! did you ever get your neighbor to wake up? aaaa! but i'm glad you woke up in time to rescue things.

you should tell the owners, but don't let them put the blame on you! If you hadn't been home, no one would have mopped, so it's not your fault. They're lucky you were home.

Apart from that: *hugs*
I went berserk when there was a tiny spray trickling alongside a wall, let alone when my books and pc would have been underneath a HUGE waterfall!

Yaye cake! :D I'll try and get the dishes and stuff done and the moussaka in the oven by the time you arrive.

I didn't, but the nice coulcil guys did, thankfully. And yeah, thank god for insomnia. O_O

Oh, the landlady is wonderful and calmed me down last night and told me I did good--she's kind of awesome. :)

Yeah, the leak in the kitchen three weeks ago was bad enough, this is ... ugh.
