You know, normally I don't really care much for Haloween, because we already have a perfectly good costumes-holiday, thank you, and we don't need all this Yankee nonsense. ;) However, the rising popularity of Halloween did mean I got to see two incredibly cute little boys dressed in full Hogwarts robes earlier today. Squeee! They were so cute!
Have updated site with drabbles, quotes and wallpapers.
I really have nothing to say today. here, have a survey:
Name, and where I can find you:
Sofie Werkers, aka Melle. independent soul
Number of fandoms written in, and which was your first:
Oh, lord. Um, actual fandoms that would count as fandoms, which I was in for long enough for it to count, in chronological order: Space: Above and Beyond, Biker Mice from Mars, Harry Potter, Metallica, U2, popslash, and Harry Potter again. So, in total, about six, plus a plethora of fandomlets I can't be arsed to count right now.
Number of different pseudonyms used, and said pseudonyms:
Three.
Way, way back in the days, I was known as "Princess Xavier," a pseudonym I ditched in late 1999, after finally realising how incredibly stupid it was.
I then went by "Armelle Amaya", which was shortened to "Melle" because that was my backup nick on IRC.
In early 2002, I decided to ditch the pseud, which at this point I only really used as an author's name, since pretty much everyone knew my real name anyway, and started writing under my full name and middle initial, Sofie K Werkers.
Het or slash?
Slash. I started out in slash right away, and while I've read het when it was recced to me or written by someone I trust, it's not usually something I really seek out. I'm on a gen-ish streak lately, but I still fear the larger HP fandom too much to venture out on my own.
Both? What fandoms have you written slash in?
N/A, really, since all I've ever written was slash, but I am in the progress of writing het, so.
Both? What fandoms have you written het in?
Well, I'm working on this HP het thing ...
Both? Which did you find harder to write, and the reasons you think why:
I find het immensely more difficult to write than slash, in ways, because I'm overly aware of gender stereotypes, and the fear that i'm somehow incorporating them into my story isn't really conductive to creaitivity. Also, and this is one of the main reasons I don't write het or femslash, there are very few female characters, let alone f/f relationships, on TV or (mainly) in books, that I can "see" as slashy. I love antagonists slash, and I have yet to come across a good example of that.
Preference: well-known/established pairings or "harder" pairings, and why?
Oh, I'm a rareslasher to the bone, baby. :) The only pairings Ieve ever liked that had a sizeable following are Justin/Chris (popslash), which wasn't all that popular except for this one big wave, and Harry/Draco, which I adore in theory but loathe about 99.9% of the actual stories in.
Other than that, it's all rare fandoms, not necessarily obscure ones, but movies and such that no one else ever thought of slashing.
Tell me about the best fic you've ever read:
Um. This kind of changes from day to day, but if I had to pick an all-time favourite, it'd be Losing My Religion, which fucked me up for days first time I read it. This is why I like darkfic.
Tell me about the best fic you've ever written:
Hm. See, right now, I like Polar and Evitar best, as well as some parts of my war!drabbles, but in the end, I'd have to go with Sin, because that was the first time I've ever written a story that was semi-long, and had a point, and a plot, and darkness, none of which I'd written before.
Are you active in your fandom(s)?
Eh. Define "active". I'm not on any lists, really, and I try to avoid HP fandom at large, because man, is it ever filled with psychos and teenies. I was semi-active in popslash in the sense that I had loads of popslash people on my friends list, and commented a lot and all, but in general, I'm really much more of a lurker.
Would you call yourself a ... ... BNF?
... Not in terms of writing, no. I'm too much of a fannish butterfly for my writing to stick in people's mind, I think. Plus, the whole rareslash thing. I seem to be fairly well-known as owner of femgeeks, but that's just in certain circles, and I don't think that qualifies me as a true BNF.
(I did more or less used to be a BNF in Metallica fandom, I think, because of the sheer volume of my posts to the list, and the fact that I was in chat every time, and that I, by virtue of having been on the list for a long time, was one of the "in-crowd". And now you know why BNF-ness scares me.)
Also, I did that name analysis thingie. Results:
Sofie:

Okay, ignoring the atrocious grammar in that first sentence, ... Um, no? o_O
You have a great deal of loyalty to those you love. You have much inner strength. You are naturally friendly.
All true.
You can be the life of the party.
Heh. I don't know, am I? Would have to ask the party's opinion on this.

Yes. Absolutely.

Eeehh. On the one hand, yes. on the other, um. I have a public online journal, so. Hm.

You said that already!

Yes, and yes.

o_O Um. Okay?

... Not really, actually.
You need to learn to be expressive.
This is true. I tend to bottle things up. it's better than it used to be, but still.
You are a person who cannot tolerate being misunderstood.
*cough* Yes. This is why I'm such a pitbull in discussions.
You can handle details well. You have a methodical mind.
Okay, the latter is right, but me? Details? If you listen carefully, you can hear my mother laughing hysterically.
Werkers:

Oh, I plan to.

Um. Yes. not as strong anymore, mostly because I've already gone through this, but I always feel the need to reinvent myself every so often.
There is a need to guard your health.
Me?
You need to learn to be expressive. You are a person who cannot tolerate being misunderstood.
That's three times!
You have a lack of confidencein your mental abilities and do not like being forced into giving your opinion.
And that's twice, and I still don't agree.
You have a need to earn money to prove your success to society and must learn the true value of material gains and status.
And ditto. WTF?
My Ravenclaw scarf looks like it could be finished tomorrow. Yay! Pictures forthcoming. Also, does anytone know how to put tresses (? is that the word?) on the end?
And now, back to actual work.

Tassels, right? What I'm intending on doing (after you know, the world ends and I finish Elfie's Hufflepuff scarf) is to poke a little hole in the end of the scarf with my needle, then take a length of yarn (double the length of the tassel), fold so the ends of the yarn touch, poke the loop-part through the hole, then put the ends through the loop and pull on the long ends. (Naturally with more than one, but just for explanation purposes et cetra.) Does that make sense?
Also, AIM sucks. Grrf!
