Dear Kellog's Company: These wheat an oatmeal bakes with chocolate chips are both delicious and nutricious enough to help me make it through the first patr of the morning. I love you!

For anyone who's pissed off at South Dakota banning abortions, you will love this:

The President of the Oglala Sioux Tribe on the Pine Ridge Reservation, Cecilia Fire Thunder, was incensed. A former nurse and healthcare giver she was very angry that a state body made up mostly of white males, would make such a stupid law against women.

"To me, it is now a question of sovereignty," she said to me last week. "I will personally establish a Planned Parenthood clinic on my own land which is within the boundaries of the Pine Ridge Reservation where the State of South Dakota has absolutely no jurisdiction."

You can find info on how to donate, either specifically for the clinic or just to the tribe in general, and on how to contact President Fire Thunder, here.

Even the quiz mocks my lack of sex life:

Mm, mm! Also, probably seeing the Blue Hands guys and basically realizing that yes, what the Tamms were running away from was real and bad probably turned them from 'people we're stuck with' into 'crew', I think. Because before that he could tell himself that they didn't need to be there, it was just some silly rich-boy thing, you know? But I think Jayne respects that kind of thing.

(And, um, yes. Lots of sense.)

Exactly, I think before, he probably figured Simon was exaggerating, but if he's actually thought about it now, he'd probably realise that Simon's done some pretty gutsy things, leaving his entire life behind and risking death or worse to get his sister out, and I do think Jayne'd respect him for that.

(Actually, even before, no matter how much Jayne wanted River off the ship, I don't think he'd ever fault Simon for rescuing her, because Jayne'd do the same for his family.)

(And, um, yes. Lots of sense.)

(Ha! Success! Really, sometimes Mal can be as dumb as Jayne, can't he? (Zoe: "Men. *shakes head*")

[identity profile] jaseroque.livejournal.com 2006-03-23 12:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Once he realized that there was something Simon needed to get River out of, yeah, I reckon that was the kicker.

(Aw, I dunno, nobody did find out, did they? I think it's just he considers his crew human, sure, but in some ways they're also just an extension of Serenity -- you fix the bits that aren't working, you just do it. I mean, telling Simon wouldn't fix the rattly noises his crew is making, it would make it worse. (Of course, he does not think of himself as part of this crew-machine, so the idea that by doing this he makes potential for himself to be/initiate rattly noises later on probably doesn't occur to him.

...

Or possibly I'm overanalyzing.)

Yes! Again, Jayne's not that bright, and needed to actually be told, ni so many words, that River isn't just crazy, someone did that to her, and Simon didn't just take her out of the loony bin for a lark or something. (The way he looks at the projection of river's brain is just. Yes. He looks almost sick when Simon talks about her getting her brain cut into. It's one of my favourite scenes of that ep, right up there with the awed-and-kinda-turned-on look Jayne gives Simon in the hospital proper.)

(Or possibly I'm overanalyzing.)

Actually, I think you're making perfect sense. :D It's just, I don't know if everyone on Serenity would be quite so happy about being treated like rattly engine bits, and yeah, Mal definitely needs to realise he's as much of an engine bit as the rest of them. Really, when it comes to social interaction, he's almost as dumb as Simon. even Jayne's at least marginally people-smarter than them!

Just look what happens when you don't come on Googletalk, young missy. I'm overtaking your lj again. (Though it's kind of good, I'm cleaning my room in the downtime. *makes unhappy room-cleaning gestures*)

And good! I thought I made lots of sense. I think his problem is not so much poor social interaction as much as not-being-an-engine-bit. Or! Possibly the way he acts around Inara is his treating someone not like an engine bit, and in which case, go Mal! Treat them all like engine bits! At least you're deeply fond of said engine bits and treat them well.

My googletalk isn't letting my sign in! Woe. :(

... Very good point, yes, Mal, do continue to treat them like engine bits! You do enough damage with Inara! *hides rest of crew under assorted beds so Mal can't hurt them*

[identity profile] jaseroque.livejournal.com 2006-03-23 12:33 pm (UTC)(link)
!! Woe! Bite it. Gently.

And, and! He won't hurt his other engine bits! He needs them for Serenity to work, and he luffs Serenity. So he luffs them. See? *logic!*

*resists urge to swoop your icon up and twirl it around* River! Wheee!

Yes! Awww, Mal. He means well, even if Zoe should really whack him with a rolled-up newspaper sometimes.

[identity profile] jaseroque.livejournal.com 2006-03-23 12:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Zoe is full of sane. I love Zoe.

[identity profile] bubosquared.livejournal.com 2006-03-23 12:39 pm (UTC)(link)
They shouldput Zoe in charge, honestly. She and Simon are the only ones who've ever had good plans, on that crew. And I'm sure Simon won't mind if Zoe takes over instead of him.

[identity profile] jaseroque.livejournal.com 2006-03-23 02:09 pm (UTC)(link)
He'd be far too scared to take over from Mal. ^^; I mean, he'd all be like "Not that he's a good captain or anything but he'll kill me."

(*has been making lasagna ! made one all on her own. it is small and demented-looking*)

[identity profile] bubosquared.livejournal.com 2006-03-23 02:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee, yis. Plus, as long as whoever's in charge doesn't keep getting himself and other people shot (*pointed look at Mal*), Simon'd be just as happy staying on Serenity and out of danger himself.

(Eeee! Congrats! Lokos aren't important, how does it taste?)

[identity profile] jaseroque.livejournal.com 2006-03-23 02:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly. But Zoe would never take over, because Mal is her captain.

(I don't knoooow, they're for the party on Saturday, so we haven't cooked them, just put them in the fridge to taunt me with their cheesy goodness. I'm not even supposed to be eating cheese right now. *misses her cheese whine* But I will on Saturday. Because LASANGA. Food of cheese-obsessed gods.

... but I fear it will not taste all that good, due to the demented.)

[identity profile] bubosquared.livejournal.com 2006-03-23 02:23 pm (UTC)(link)
This is true, unfortunately. She's a lot better at this planning thing.

No cheese? *shock* You poor thing!

[identity profile] jaseroque.livejournal.com 2006-03-23 02:26 pm (UTC)(link)
It is MISERY. But the natropath lady said no dairy products grr, so no dairy products it is. Milk I can drink lactose free (bleck, but it's okay) or goat's milk (yaaaaaay, but it's hard to find). Chocolate is right out, but I'm trying not to eat sweet things anyway because MIGOD but I do not have time to be sick right now, and everyone else in my family is. *quakes in terror* But OH GOD CHEESE you never know how much you love it until you can't eat it. *emosob*

[identity profile] bubosquared.livejournal.com 2006-03-23 02:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I can only imagine. *comfort* Anything I can do/write for you to make it better?

[identity profile] jaseroque.livejournal.com 2006-03-23 02:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh, fic for not eating cheese. *ponders deeply*

[identity profile] bubosquared.livejournal.com 2006-03-23 03:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I take requests!

... Sometimes. And I can't guarantee it'll be a) good or b) what you actually asked for (my brain, it makes strange leaps in logic sometimes), but I'll try!

[identity profile] jaseroque.livejournal.com 2006-03-23 03:19 pm (UTC)(link)
... I just found a whole pile of songs by Hugh Laurie. I'll. Um. Be distracted for a while.
