So my brother bought himself a bass guitar. The brand? Washburne. Heeeee! My first reaction: "But Wash is much more of a drummer type!" And then I had to beat myself in the face with a lamp, again. Ahem.

...So what does Jayne do?
Backup vocals with Kaylee?no subject

...That must mean they have - damn, I forgot the english word - trumpet and trombone and sax - unit.

OTOH ...
Mal - Lead guitar, songwriting (aka, the Noal Gallagher of the group);
Inara - Lead singer (aka, the Liam Gallagher of the group, HA!);
Wash - Drums;
Zoe - Bass;
Book - Rhytm guitar?
Simon - Sax (! Mmmm.)
River - ?
Jayne - ?

Book can do rhythm guitar and backing vocals; Kaylee and River are the backing vocal girls who are sometimes given keyboard or a triangle or a tambourine and are expected to be cute. Jayne can do guitar or bass very nicely. But then, not enough - what are they called? All the - BRASS! I think. Simon+Book+Jayne? No, makes more sense if it's Simon+River+Kaylee. The sax/trumpet/trombone - big band - nine people - thing.
Are we caring too much about this bunny?

So Simon is pretty definitely the sax player--possibly comes from more of a jazz club background and isn't used to this rock 'n roll thing, possibly thinking himself better than that, even?
River and Kaylee as background singers, yesyesyes, definitely, and Book on rhytm guitar, and Jayne on second bass (hee, second base! ... never mind), maybe?
Are we caring too much about this bunny?
No such thing, surely? (Especially not at 10:10AM on a slow day at work. :D)
OMGPOPSLASH.
Serenity: The Boyband? Oh, now you've done it ... (SPACE COWBOY!)

Jayne is gonna be horrible with groupies, huh. No way around that.
Unless Mal keeps him literally on a leash.You're of course right about Simon being more "educated" than the rest - River too - ohh, she can do cello. You know, that can work so well with rock. Classical training - okay, I so shut up. But it does remind me of Type O Neg, and Jayne, and contrabass looking like a little guitar in the hands of a big enough man.
More on pop - Mal not wanting to sell out but eventaully convinced by the money? Oh god, Jayne saying "the money was too good, I got stupid" gives for a whole field full o' bunnies.

Groupies and alcohol, man. *shakes head*

Ooooh, perfect! And contrabass for Jayne, yis. He can be part of the rhytm section.
Mmmthreesome.More on pop - Mal not wanting to sell out but eventaully convinced by the money? Oh god, Jayne saying "the money was too good, I got stupid" gives for a whole field full o' bunnies.
Dude. Yes! Perfect! He did a big interview with some magazine or something, in spite of Mal not wanting them to do any interviews at all cause it's supposed to be just about the music, or somesuch.

"Aw, cmon, Mal. There's more coin in pop. Just try this [tiny, hot pink, belly-showing] shirt on. How come you's always gettin' to choose jobs?"
Also, "I am not wearing a miniskirt, sir."
Also, Kaylee might support Jayne on the whole Britney angle.

"*shrug* It's not like anyone can really see me, anyway, sitting behind my drums."
"Thank god for small mercies."
"Are you implying my husband doesn't have the legs for a miniskirt, sir?"
"Look, Mal, you can stick to rock and still make money--look at the Stones! Here, at least try these leather pants on once."

...Jayne's just trying to perv on Mal, huh.

Second. Ahhh, the classic sharing-of-groupies-to-hide-homoerotic-sexual-tension. Sweet. Oldest trick - well, a pretty old trick.
Cat says stuff about how bands start small and then people just seem to join until the band is rather large, which is perfect Serenity history...

huh, I hadn't realised this entry was locked. o_O ,em>*fixes*

And clearly, Saffron is one of the groupies--the scary stalker type. Which won't stop Jayne, obviously.

Oooh, yes, it starts out with Mal and Zoe, and then they get a drummer, and then the others slowly come in, and it's all good, except most of the band kind of questions Mal's sanity when he gets Inara in on it because she's a bit of a diva, but she can sing, so they'll live with it, and when Simon and River join, Jayne gets cranky because he doesn't get why a rock band would need a sax and a cello anyway, and why is Mal so opposed to going a little pop-ish because "it's not rock" when they have the very un-rock-like sax and cello, dammit?
