Misheard TV ad of the day: "I'm Dr Robert Chase, and this much I know: You have to look out for yourself to get head." Okay, then, Baby Chase. :D

Also, in the interest of the bunny currently chewing on my left ankle*, a wee poll:

[Poll #652369]

Dear Amy: This does not mean I'm actually going to write it!

* The bunny gnawing on my right ankle is a fluffy-slash-angsty one. Kinda like an angst-frosted cupcake. Mmm. Cupcakes.

But it might tell you when they were born, I think.

Oooh, that would work as well. *takes notes*

Actually, now that I read up on it, I dunno if it would work at all.

Normally, it /does/ measure from death, but do vampires breathe? Eat? If they do, then as far as carbon dating goes they're not really 'dead'.

I think.

*reads http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carbon_dating a bit more*

Hm, well, they'd be Buffy-type vamps, who do eat and can breathe if they want to (ref. Spike's smoking, and dunking weetabix in his mug of blood, plus the actual drinking of blood), but some of that at least could be put down to the demon, possibly? There's also the complication that this story would be taking place 500 years from now, so maybe science will be more advanced, then?

*ponders this more*

Well, science might be more advanced, but that technique would still be that technique, you know?

Actually, thinking on it, even drinking blood might be enough to bugger it up.

On the other hand, since it's in the future you can just hand-wave and use technology as magic. Call it something like 'spectroscopic dating analysis' and have the characters just assume everyone knows how it works (so they don't feel the need to explain it).

Also, I thought that the 'demon' in vampirism was more of a non-corporeal entity. It's not like there's a Goa-uld-like critter in their heads, or anything.

Oh good god, what did he actually say? Get ahead?
He'd totally think along the lines of what you heard, though, wouldn't he? The darling boy. :D

And, yeah, the carbon-date thing would sort of depend on what kind of vampire you were talking about, I think -- what death did to them, if afterwards they were partly or fully inanimate matter or whatever. I'm not any sort of expert on either carbon-dating or the workings of vampire biology though. (Although the latter, I suppose, is entirely up to your creativity.)

[identity profile] bubosquared.livejournal.com 2006-01-14 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep, I think that's what he's supposedly saying, but that initial "a" is totally muttered. :D

Well, they're Buffy-vamps, so I could handwave that the feeding is actually the demon, so they're animated-by-demon corpses, and thus can be carbon-dated. Hm. (I can't believe I'm seriously discussing this.)

I don't think it "could" be done, but I think it'd be funny to write that it can, nonetheless. :D

[identity profile] bubosquared.livejournal.com 2006-01-15 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
Well, obviously, because of that whole "vampires aren't real" thing, but still. :D It'd be a minor plot point, so I suppose I could get away with it.
