Hello, my name is Melle. I've read and enjoyed, and written, rapefic, That doesn't mean I condone rape.

I've read and enjoyed incestfic (het and slash). That doesn't mean I want to shag my brother.

I've read and enjoyed, and currently have a bunny for chanslash (undeage slash). That doesn't mean I think all adult/teenager relatoinships are completely equal and healthy.

I'm working on an IRA!AU. I do not think terrorism is good.

I've also read watersports, scat, necrophilia, and all kins of things that require warnings. I'm notoriously unsquickable by content. Pairing, sometimes, because I'm prone to character issues, and some characterisatoins, and unhealthy relationships portrayed as romatic rub me the wrong way, but you know, it's fiction. I have a back button, and a delete button, and I have no qualks about writing to someone if I'm truly bothered saying "Look, I think this is terrible OOC" and stuff.

But I'm not gonna judge people on what they read or write. Because I've been reading incest porn and hardcore S&M and rape porn and all kinds of wrong since I was fourteen, and I have yet to shag my brothers, or rape someone, or what have you.

We are not our stories.

I think one of the things art allows us to do is safely explore things we couldn't--or don't want to--in life. I think the whole purpose of art is to challenge us--whether it makes us uncomfortable, makes us think, whatever. Just because we may write about something doesn't mean we want to do it. Just because we read about something doesn't mean we want to do it.

I don't understand why people don't--or can't--see this distinction.

I mean, I know it's probably a lot easier for me, because I am, as I said, notoriously unsquickable to the point where I've written stories for people as a reward for managing that feat. But I've had this kind of discussion about rapefic, chanslash, incest, whatever, about two dozen times over, and it always comes down to the fact that it's fiction and doesn't harm anyone.
