Okay.
Still nothing from the U2 plagiarism situation. I'm pretty sure the majority of the list is doin, basically, what I'm doing, and waiting for a reaction from either the listmum or the author, both of whom are remaining silent.
Just checked the list archives, and the post(s, it was double-posted) with the story have been removed, so either the listmum or the author have taken some sort of steps. The author is still on the list.
I want to try and email the listmod to say I'd like her to publically take a stand one way or another. Those of you who're on the list, a) do you think I should, and b) if you agree, can I mention this in my email. (Strength in numbers and all.)
Re: Plagiarism
And the opinion of the plagiarised author should not matter in deciding whether you take a public stand or not. At the very least, we'd have appreciated a note that you were aware of the issue and were on the case. And I way "we" because people sure as fuck do care. Several people from the list are on my friends list, and they've posted things about it. They were just not speaking up on the list or to you because I'd already spoken up. Please don't try to make this out as if I'm the only one with a problem here.
Cassandra's email is ben_matt@yahoo.com, or m7traxlady@yahoo.com, which is the one on the story I'll give her your email so she can contact you.
And I'm still leaving the list, I'm sorry. This is just the straw (so to speak; I think it's a bit worse than a straw) that broke the camel's back.)
Re: Plagiarism
I did. You can go read it.
I chose to do so in my own time after I had considered the issue enough to make the decision I felt was best.
And the opinion of the plagiarised author should not matter in deciding whether you take a public stand or not.
It didn't. However, when it comes to reprimanding the offender, I feel that the plagiarized party should have some say. That's what I meant when I said I wanted to consider all sides of the issue. Sorry for not clarifying.
Whether you leave the list or not is your decision. No matter what decision I make on this issue, not everyone will be happy with it. I consider it my duty as moderator to take a stand on the issue after having considered it logically, and I consider it my duty to take appropriate action to ensure that it doesn't happen again. It is not my duty to make you happy.
Re: Plagiarism
I read it. Right now, I consider it too little too late. The story was posted five days ago, and if I hadn't gone into the archives and seen the story removed, none of us would've had any idea you were even aware of the problem. A simple note saying "I'm aware of the accusations/controversy/whavever" would've made us all a lot happier. That wouldn't have even involved any actual reprimands yet, but it would've made you an actual good listmod.
It may not be your suty to make me happy, but as a listmod, you do have a duty to, I don't know, moderate (I wasn't not alone in this, you know. Look up in the thread and you'll see at least three listmembres have posted agreeing with me.)
And since you're dealing with the offender "privately", I'll take that to mean there's no public apology forthcoming, take my ass off the fucking list. Because, yes, thank you so much for acknowledging that that's my decision.
