Man. I'd completely forgotten how much fun it is to frolick through the RSA. It's like a big slash playground. Wheeee! Blackadder slash! Bottom slash! Oooh, Dead Poets Society! I've not read that since ... ages ago, when Mona was still active in fandom and maintaining the Marrow Of Life archive.

Does anyone but me even remember Mona? Argh. Hi, my name is Melle, and I'm old. Where's my cane? Kids these days ...

I don't think I'll ever forget her, to be honest. She was a big part of my fandom life, and I think a lot of my first stories in fandoms where hers.

And yes, a frolic through the RSA can be much fun :)

I remember Mona. I was on her list. She did some awesome stuff for fandom.

(I keep forgetting, which one os us has been in fandom the longest? I think we're about the same fandom-age, no?)

And yes! Some of the best writing tips I've had, I got from Mona. Like "read your story out loud."

Um. I don't know which of us is older, fandom-wise. My first newsgroup posts seem to have been in December of 1995 (and I cringe to see how young I was). I read my first slash story sometime after that, but I didn't really get into slash until spring of 1998 (I had joined X/Story at least by March 20, which surprises me because I thought it was later). I was writing by July of that year, and I posted my first story in November, 1998 (to alt.tv.x-files.creative as well as X/Story). And now I'm old and bitter.

Hm, I wasn't involved in fandom before slash, so fandom-wise, I think you're a bit older. I was reading and writing slash in 1996, but I didn't actually get into slash until late 1997. I think we're about matched.

And, yes. Old and bitter. I feel like we should be wearing black turtlenecks and meeting in dark smokey cafés over coffee, bitching about Kids These Days and stuff. <g>

Speaking of Kids These Days, why do you think zendom is a good list?

Also, I was looking for something to read yesterday, and I realized that I still have the address that used to house Mona's webpage bookmarked. It's been a long time, and I still haven't been able to bring myself to delete it.

I liked it because there was, at the time, an interesting discussion going on about things like feedback et al. I dunno, I liked it better than FCA-L, anyway. Why?

Sigh, I know. I can still remember the address of the Slash Links Page by heart, and that's not been updated in three years. (Despite this, I recall its last update. Speaking of things that make one feel old.)

I ask because I'm finding zendom highly irritating. Too much quoting of the posts they're replying to and too many people with incest squicks.

Yeah, it's been irritating lately. If you go back through the archives, there's an interesting thread on critique, feedback and the publicity thereof.

Eh. I may just unsub. I'm not interested in discussion at the moment.

I remember Mona very well...she was the one who got me hooked onto Dead Poets Society slash. I really miss her, and I'm amazed by how many fandoms she was in. :)

By the way, when Mona left, she turned the Marrow of Life archive over to me - it's at http://www.ktnb.net/dps/ *g*

and I remember Mona fondly. Wish she hadn't left off writing, and pulled her page, because her stories in all sorts of fandoms were wonderful.

Oh wow, yes I remember Mona as well. But then I'm one of the old ones as well :)))

but I was there for a lot of it. And yes, I remember Mona fondly. And I miss her a whole hell of a lot. A lot of what I learned about slash, I learned from her. When I turned to the net to answer my 'Richie' questions, the first stories I found were Kevin Robnett's and the second I found were Mona's. You never forget those that helped you out the most.
