It's really weird when you see a story come through on a list one day and you read a bit and decide that no, sorry, this is not what you like, and the dialogue's all off and weird and ick, and then a few weeks later some of your favourite artists recc it warmly.

Yeah, i'm talking about Grown. Georgina and Dacey both liked it, but I went back and read it and even though I am much with the JuNi-love, especially right now, I still can't say I like it. And I can't pinpoint the problem, either. (Althought the "dollface" thig is certainly part of it, for some reason.)

Oh, the story in and of itself isn't bad. It seems to be mostly the dialogue that struck me as weird and off and ... somewhat non-USAian, for some reason. (But then I'm hypersensitive about Britischisms, due to personal history in Metallica fandom.)

I think for me it was the tone as much as anything that *made* me like it. Everything I've read lately has been so dark and sad and depressing. This was light and it just made me smile.

But I don't really read BSB fic and I have no grasp of how Nick is usually portrayed or written. I liked it because it didn't depress me and gave me some good giggles. Some days that's just all I ask from a story. : )

right on. I just have the exact opposite thing going on. this fandom is, like, too cheery for me. or too fluffy. or too...something. I miss M/K, like. I went and read all the Lost Boys incest slash on Te's site just to get a good wallop of guilt and shame and anguish and whatnot.

I'm kinda embracing my perversity right now. no one else is, though! that's the problem. muahah. (that was an evil laugh, if you wondered).

Well, I have a bunny for a series of seriously fucked up Almodovar inspired shorts. Sexualized violence galore and even one with some necrophiliac subtext. dirt and blood! whee!

but. um. I'm still debating on actually writing them..... not sure if I wouldn't be tarred and feathered for some of this stuff. heh.

Well. Like. yeah. Sometimes certain fics just don't sit well with certain people. Like.. there are authors around who write stuff that I just can't go with.. and get they get tons of feedback/praise with every fic. ::shrugs:: Taste issues, I guess. Hell, I have acquaintances in the fandom who dislike my fics. And writers I respect who are like, "I thought the timeshifting!sync idea was bleh." And yet a few people do read my fic and claim to enjoy it. So. yeah. People just go for different things... *g*

there's no such thing as too much. that's my eleven cents. I think this fandom can handle unfluffy shit. the fluffsters can go get their jollies somewhere else. let the sickos stick together.
