Stuff

  1. I am so jealous of Nat and her writer's conference. Mimph. [Kidding, Nat. Hope you had fun. Wish I'd been there. Bah.]
  2. Tripod can fucking bite me! Vali's coming over to femgeeks, so na, you can't keep her down. Eat that, you gestapo nazi's!
  3. Nette is also gonna get a website on femgeeks, and since my brother's site is in the 'look, I'm actually working on it now' stage, I'm probably gonna be short some space. That's okay, though. I have to pay a ridiculously small amount of [extra] money anyway, so I'll be asking them if I can upgrade the webspace while I'm at it. And fuck it if that means less money to spend in NY. This is important.
  4. Next time I say I'm gonna turn in early and not go out long on a Saturday or whatnot, just hit me, okay? Jesus. 4AM by the time I was in bed. Awoke at 4PM, got up at 6PM. HEadache. Owie.
  5. Am prolly going to take aforementioned brother to Harry Potter movie. He agress about McG being too old, but wants to go anyway, and I think I can put up with the annoyance for his sake. Also, the thought of Rick Mayall going "Oooh, ickly firsties. What fun." is makjing me goo. I'm weird like that.

Hey Sofie,

Do you have space for someone else? I'm trying to move Beth's site before Tripod closes it down and i'm having a heck of a time. that's mostly due to not knowing what the HELL i'm doing (embarrasingly computer illiterate). i tried to do the ftp thing today and still no luck. if you have space, please let me know at viedma9@yahoo.com.

Thanks a bunch!
Mary

This has absolutely nothing to do with your post, but you're seeing U2 in Antwerp in August, right? The Stereophonics are supporting. Arrrrrrrgh! I'm jealous enough that you get to see U2, but them as well? Whither art mine rser?

[identity profile] bubosquared.livejournal.com 2001-03-18 12:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I'll get to see them twice in the States and twice over here. I have 2 tix for each concert they're doing in Antwerp. I'm taking my little bro to the first one, but if you can make it over here, you can have the other one.

[And thanks, I had no idea who was supporting U2 over here. I knew twas PJ Harvey in the States.]

Re:

[identity profile] pelicanzed.livejournal.com 2001-03-18 02:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Four times? I just hope they do good concerts . . . (Shed 7 make great albums, as far as I'm concerned, but their concerts tend to smell.) Then again, it's U2, so it shouldn't be a worry.

PJ Harvey too? Fiend! (The Stereophonics thing was announced at Dotmusic. 9/10 of its articles are about Puff Daddy, but it can be quite useful.) But, ooh, yes, thanks for the offer. You know, that might just be within the realms of possibility - I'll be in Canterbury then, so it's not too far to travel. Whether this will fit in with my hypothetical summer job, I have no idea (I won't start looking until May), but it should be manageable. Can I get back to you on this?

[identity profile] bubosquared.livejournal.com 2001-03-19 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
Re: concerts - Dude, it's U2, they don't do bad concerts! [Please ignore dazed look, have not, repeat not been brainwashed.] And heck, even if they did, the slashiness alone would be enough to make me want to go.

Re: tickets - Actually, I may also have more tickets for the first concert as well, so you can chose. First concert is Sunday, 5 August, second one Monday 6 August. Will prolly be taking The Brother to the first one, so if you want to avoid 12 year olds you may want to ome to the second one. I will also have room available to stay, btw. If all goes well, I'll have a studio/apartment of my own by then. [Whoooboy, sudden giddy moment there.]

Truezetrue! (Well, I can imagine the whole "Watch More TV" thingy was annoying, but even so...)

Hmm - it said the Stereophonics were only playing Antwerp on August 5th, so that would be the one I'd rather attend. (Unless Madness are supporting on the 6th. Will have to find out?) (Also, the 5th is a Sunday, which would fit in better with taking a weekend off from Hypothetical Job.) I don't mind 12 year olds and room available to stay = v. handy and most gracious I am for the offer.

[identity profile] bubosquared.livejournal.com 2001-03-22 05:57 am (UTC)(link)
The 5th it is, then. Wahey! Does this mean we have a SofieAndZedCon planned?

Re:

[identity profile] pelicanzed.livejournal.com 2001-03-22 06:56 am (UTC)(link)
I think we do! Woohoo! Tim has no chance of catching up with me now!

[identity profile] bubosquared.livejournal.com 2001-03-22 07:41 am (UTC)(link)
Actually, technically, I suppose it would be SofieSteveAndZedCon. But then I might scare you off. And it's long. [Although not as long as JessMollySofieAndSteveCon, aka U2Con, aka New York, aka NY.]

Re:

I am not afraid of The Dark Lord Steve Van Boven! If anything, he should fear me! (Actually, I'm curious to meet him, as we first spoke on the phone in April 1999.)

The length is a bit bad, though. Were we to get t-shirts made, it would really difficult if you got a pack of letters with only one of each in. When I have money, I might just about manage TimKrys&ZedCon, if they count "&" as a letter, but the three of us have far too many 'e's.

[identity profile] bubosquared.livejournal.com 2001-03-23 06:29 am (UTC)(link)
Hehehe. You should fear him. And me. You most definitely should fear me. Always. Ha!

Mmmm, T-Shirts ...

Re:

[identity profile] pelicanzed.livejournal.com 2001-03-23 06:35 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, no, you should be afraid of me! Even I'm afraid of me, I'm that bad! As for those dementors, they tremble in fright at the very thought of Zed.

The t-shirts I've found are tres good. Black, in many a size, with funchie white capital letters. I have this nasty feeling you need to iron them on, though. Ironing! Arrrrrrgh!

[identity profile] bubosquared.livejournal.com 2001-03-24 08:11 am (UTC)(link)
Cool, you're a patronus! :D Actually, I think I know a place where I can have T-shirts made at a reasonable price. Shall loon into that. And are you going to be in/near London 5 and 6 May? Will be going to England vith verk, and want to take advantage while am there.

Re:

[identity profile] pelicanzed.livejournal.com 2001-03-24 08:42 am (UTC)(link)
Yep, looning into it sounds good. (Sorry to make fun of your typo, but I liked it a lot.) Yes, you should always take advantage of London. I wasn't planning to be there that weekend (I was thinking more along the lines of the weekend before, to go to Camden et Slimelight) but I could go there that weekend too or instead - I'll have money by then. What are the circumstances - what do you have to do for work and when do you have to do it?

Do you ever feel guilty for having this sort of conversation via Livejournal, taking up their space and making people think you're discussing something with relevance to the original entry? I like it though - I feel a lot more compelled to answer livejournal posts than normal e-mails.

[identity profile] bubosquared.livejournal.com 2001-03-24 08:51 am (UTC)(link)
Hey! No making fun of my tyops, yau! :P Actually, maybe I could ask my coworker if we can go the week before.

I have to be in Swindon on Friday, and we're flying to London and from there taking the train to Swindon. So I have transportation to London, then to Swindon and back to London, and then on Sunday back to Belgium. I just need entertainment, and maybe a place to sleep. [Do you know of any good places?]

I love my job. Trip to Swindon in May, trip to Glasgow in July, ...

And no. I have no guilty feelings. Ever. <g>

Re:

[identity profile] pelicanzed.livejournal.com 2001-03-24 09:15 am (UTC)(link)
Well, the only reason I want to go a week earlier is that I want to go to London at some point next term, but my exams start on 15 May so the earlier the better. I don't suppose it makes much difference though.

Entertainment-wise: I'd definitely recommend Camden (well, I want to go back there myself), if you don't feel too embarrassed about drooling in public and don't mind feeling insanely jealous of the people who can afford to dress impressively every day. (Although I've got this theory that they just have really bad hygiene and wear the same clothes every day...) What else? Well, you probably know as much about Nodnol as I do: there's myriad museums and lots of stoof to see, if anything tickles thine fancy. When I've had netmeetings there, I've usually spent the day sitting in cafes, looking round shops, and walking about and taking a lot more tubes than strictly necessary.

I wish I knew a good place to sleep myself! Sadly, the only people I know in London are friends' relatives who I don't really feel I can impose myself (never mind anyone else) upon. What's your coworker doing about accommodation? Slimelight is as good a place as any to spend a Saturday night (it runs from 10 - 7.30), if you don't mind not sleeping, or sleeping on a metal box (unless you're v. lucky and get a sofa to yourself) to the sound of loud goth/industrial music. (It's not as difficult as it sounds.)

Lucky you. I never got to go any further afield than Northallerton, a v. boring town in a neighbouring county, for my job. Why precisely are you going to Swindon, byzeway?

[identity profile] bubosquared.livejournal.com 2001-03-26 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
Going to Swindon to meet up with finance people of our 'mother firm'. Am responsible for most of finances here, you see.

Camden et Slimelight sound great. I am able to sleep anywhere, so tshouldn't be a problem. And cheap, as well. <g>

Re:

[identity profile] pelicanzed.livejournal.com 2001-03-26 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
Gosh, that sounds important!

Slimelight is £8 (for non-members), but still cheaper than a night at any sort of proper lodging. Let me know which weekend you're coming, when you find out, and we'll make a more detailed plan then.
