Aaargh! This is the 21st century, people! Women don't automatically take their husbands last name anymore. If you wanna do it, fine, but could you please not act like it's only natural, and all married women take their husband's last name?

sheesh for fucks sake dont' they know that taking their dad's name & then hubby;s means it signifies they are property of their dad, then hubby??

shits me chrocinc. i'm not getting married but shoudl ido so through insanity i'm not only keeping my name, but should i (thourgh more insanity cause i'm never going to) have kids, they are having MY last name.

The way I look at it, unless your mom picked a whole new last name for you, you've already got some damn guy's name anyway. If you don't wanna take your husband's name, more power to you. In my case, I figured I'd rather have it be a name that I chose (his) rather than one that I didn't (in my case, my grandfather's, since my mom wasn't married.) To me, it's important for a family to have the same last name, whether it's his, hers, a hyphenated one, or one they make up.

Now, the thing that DOES annoy me is a woman who signs herself, "Mrs. John Smith." Not so much with older women - I can kind of understand it since that's the way they used to do things. But when I was working retail, there were YOUNG women who used to come through with checks that said, "John Smith and Mrs. John Smith." I'm like, WTF??? When they told you that you were now one flesh, that's NOT what they meant.

Oh, I've no problem with women doing this, per se. It's the way she said it that ticked me off, as if it were only natural and logical, and doesn't every woman change her name after marriage?
