BOOK-BURNING ASSHOLES!

Book burning?! Literally? What book and why?

[identity profile] bubosquared.livejournal.com 2001-05-30 06:37 am (UTC)(link)
Not literally that I know of, no. But they're starting to really enforce the 1997 [?] anti-negationist law; removing negatoinist books from public libraries, making it illegal to own negationist books or to say negationist things.

I want to burn the lot of them. Bastard. Freedom of fucking speech, people! Bastards!

What is "negationism," she asked ignorantly?

[identity profile] bubosquared.livejournal.com 2001-05-30 06:44 am (UTC)(link)
The act of denying or minimising the Holocaust, basically. Which is a loathsome thing to to, yes, but Freedom of Speech is sacred for everyone.

Erm, yeah, I'm sort of pissed about this. Can you tell?

Ah, you mean *revisionism.* ;-) Well, as utterly loathsome as I find any kind of Holocaust denial, you should be pissed off. All it does is drive this kind of stuff farther underground...where it doesn't get any less dangerous...

They call it negationism over here! And yes, exactly. Plus, on a purely selfish level, I like reading idiot's opinions. It makes me feel smart. And now that's illegal.

I've half a mind to buy a 'forbidden book' over the net or something just to break the fucking stupid law.
