(Yes, I know I'm possibly readigng things into this that aren't there, but it grates. I guess that just proves I'm not "bubbly".)

I will say you do occasionally bubble in a friendly cheerful manner (and not airheaded in any way), but by no stretch of the imagination do you have a "bubbly personality".

In coporation-talk, yeah, they're looking for someone without an ounce of actual grey matter in their heads. *sigh*

Yeah, it's one thing to say someone acts bubbly at a given time, but a "bubbly personality" comes off as corporate-speak for "airheaded pushover" even if it's not meant that way, which I do believe it is.

Oh, and I also think they're looking for a woman. Men don't get described as "bubbly".

Seriously, those sort of words are part of what my currently-abandoned PhD is/was about. If I got the research published, they could be got for gender discrimination. Hmm...

Oh, totally, the friend I was chatting to about this had the same first reaction. "Bubbly" brings to mind a stereotypical Pretty Blonde Secretary type, if you know what I mean. Which I'm ... not. They also wanted someone who is "well-presented," which in a normal job ad tends to mean "conservative-professional-looking," which I'm also not, but which makes sense to look for in a receptionist for, say, a law firm. In this context, though, it just has this undertone of "We want a pretty, slim young thing."

You can tack "Who will play along with sexual advances" onto that. It might just be around here, but I seriously doubt it.

Yep. I started crossing ads with the word "bubbly" and synonyms off after the first interview with the company who wanted a bubbly person. They not only hit on me, they also got a visibly (but not verbally, of course) upset when I purposefully closed my jacket so they couldnt get a look at my clevage. There are girls who love that sort of crap--let them have the bubbly jobs.

I just wish that the word bubbly came with a subtitle warning for people who aren't (and do not wish to be) bubbly.

God, yes. Cheerful I can do, a cano-do attitude I have, but "bubbly"? No way in hell.

For me, it usually means someone who will cheerfully put up with the crap that the company will throw at them, without flipping out and going postal. But that might just be me...

Oh, that too. It's such a versatile little word, isn't it?

Yep. That's about it. I, too, despise that word "bubbly" to describe a personality. It's as if a happy or cheerful personality is not enough. Grr.

To take the best possible view: they could have had a nasty grump at that job previously, who alienated co-workers and customers. That might make a thoughtless person add something like "bubbly" to a job description...

Cheerful, friendly, being able to talk to people, more importantly being able to entertain people while selling them things/ideas. Being able to appear energetic at any given moment even when you're not.
