Seriously, even several Fox reporters whom I'm told are usually parrots to the party line were completely shocked and desperate just by being on the ground, everyone I know is affected by what's happening, even non-USAians, and Bush is ... fine. I mean, what? He doesn't even care enough to pretend to be upset?
That rant is awesome. If that's Miss Alli from TWoP, my opinion of her just rose by about a million percent.
When I read what Barbara fucking Bush said, I hated her so much it scared me. I was brought up Quaker, and atheist adult or not, hatred like that feels weird. But how a woman in a fucking sports arena, looking at rows and rows of army cots; people without privacy, or quiet, or security of any kind; people who've lost everything, including (at best) friends and neighbours, and (at worst) loved ones; how that millionaress could smirk and say "they've done well out of this, they all want to stay"... because they had the courage and dignity to make light of it, to say with grace I can't begin to imagine that they'd build a home there, in Houston...
She made me want to take her down to NOLA, dump her in a stinking, chemical filled, flooded house, and wait for the crocodiles to reach her.
I have had moments where I have seriously doubted that George W. Bush is actually human.
The rant puts coherent words to what I was already thinking: this is not a man. Oh, yes, certainly flesh and blood and outward appearance, but all humanity, all depth of feeling, all range of character, all the vibrancy that is felt by the rest of us is not there. He is no better, no more, than a puppet encased in human flesh, an emotionless robot reading out words.
A robot could probably do better at sounding compassionate, actually.
But the facade cannot hold forever, and it is already breaking down.
The fact that he doesn't even seem to think about faking stress and concern is just nauseating. The icons of him playing guitar referencing Nero fiddling while Rome burnt are so spot-on, man.

No wonder her son turned out so well.

And god, the Barbara Bush thing ... I seriously made stabby motions at my screen while at work when I first read that.
