Note:

When I say bitching is good, I do mean bitching to people who're able to defend themselves. I could be the world's biggest bitch [which I'm not, not yet], but I'd never bitch out people who are not allowed to bitch back. Like people behind the counter at McD's, or any shop or store for that matter.

It irritates me to no end that the people doing this are the same people who'd never ever tell their friends or family how they feel, because y'know, those people might talk back. McD's people can't. They're not allowed. If they let that smile slip for a second, if they forget for a moment that The Customer Is Always Right, they're fired. They cannot bitch back. Bitching at them, especially for something that's not even their fault, like the company policy, is a cowardish thing to do.

Yes, I get annoyed at these people, too. Yes, a lot of them are incompetent shmucks who are physically incapable of processing your order correctly in less than 3 tries. But you know what? I've been there. I've been behind that counter -- albeit not at McD's -- and I know what it's like. I remember the pure, unaltered hatred I used to feel for alot of customers. I remember how utterly degrading it is when people are calling you a liar, a thief and an idiot, and you've to gnash your teeth or no pay for the temp.

Remember: Bitching, good. Bitching at people who can't bitch back, cowardish.

AMEN!

Wai! My hero!

I've been behind the counter, too...it fucking sucks. Also been a telemarketer...double fucking sucks. There is no reason to bitch these people out...why do people insist on it? Do they really have that driving of a need to feel important? As much as I would have liked to say "Well, ma'am, it's my dinner time too, my mom and my brother are having grilled steak, and I'm stuck here at fucking work!", I couldn't...powerless little fucks.

And by the way:
McD's people can't. They're not allowed. If they let that smile slip for a second, if they forget for a moment that The Customer Is Always Right, they're fired. They cannot bitch back.
What McDonald's do you go to? The people at the ones here either can't speak English, or they're even ruder than the customers.

Belgian ones. :) We have the no parle nerlandais thing as well, but they're gernally pretty much grovelling for the customer. In fact, I've heard a manager tell a worker to shut up and not oppose a client, who was so rude I was shocked. That incident was what spurred the entry. :)

To quote one of the best movies of all time, "This job would be great if it weren't for the fucking customers."

-Randall, Clerks.

Damn right!

Actually, that job would've sucked even without the customers. I'm a pescatarian -- I don't eat meat, but I do eat fish -- and working with meat was disgusting for me.

There at the moment.

When one has to try and pay their way through University, they will take *any* job here in New Zealand.

Not McD's though, an ice cream parlor in a busy mall. Believe it or not, there *are* places that offer worse wages than McD's. I am lucky enough to be working at one of them.

My customer service is fantastic for the majority of the customers, but there are some people I flat out refuse to serve now. One woman always used to throw her money into the chocolate sause that we dunk the ice cream in, knowing we would have to strain the entire container to get her money. On several occasions, we've called security because customers have taken the abuse too far.

I simply refuse to deal with crap. And I will not let people treat the rest of the small staff or even our *bosses* in that way either. Our bosses are an Asian couple whose english is good but at times - such as when they are being insulted, not good enough. Considering I'm such a wimp and a push over most of the time, it's strange I react in such a way when pushed by customers at work.

You're lucky. If I'd have even vaguely complained to the boss about a customer, I'd have been fired on the spot.
