Free to good home: tapes of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. They're practically new, UK format, English version, and non-subtitled. Five tapes in total, of Season Three, volume 9 through 13. (Episodes: Visionary through The Adversary.)

Whoever wants them can have them at price of postage (PayPal, trading, whatever. I'm flexible, we cna work something out.) Leave a message if you want them; first come, first serve.

Y'know, just to say it, you can get at least £5 for them on ebay...

Being that I sold off several seasons of tapes recently.

Yes, but that would require me to have a credit card to set up an account. Also, I got them for free myself, so I'd feel bad about asking money for them.

For ebay ? No way, I think ebay owns paypal by now or it is the other way around. Have the mofo pay you by paypal. It's your term anyway. You did know that paypal can transfer your funds to your belgian bank account for the price (loss) of about one euro, uhm, since like two months or something, right ?

Does that work the other way round, too? IE, can I put money on my PayPal account from here?

[identity profile] wimmeke.livejournal.com 2003-05-25 02:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I've never had the need to because I do own a credit card and all the money goes directly from there. If you feel comftable with it and we're not talking about a huge amount of money, I could let you transfer money to my bank account and then pass it on to you on paypal.

And another tip: With the current state of the US currency, set your paypal account to Euro's if you haven't done so yet. Quoting Paypal:
"If you add a U.S. checking or savings account, you can transfer funds from your checking or savings account to your PayPal account using Electronic Funds Transfer. "

I'd guess that's a no regarding your question.

I've liked most of Star Trek but deep space nine sucked big time. For the rare occasions on which I did watch it.

Anything from Star Trek Voyager would be gladly appreciated though.

UK format...as in "not compatible with American format"? I know nothing about video formats, but I love Deep Space Nine. Do you know if it'd work?

I'm afraid I don't think so, pet. I can play both, but as far as I know, there's no NSCT recorders that can play VHS (erm, or whatever the official name of European/UK format is), though you might want to have a look at your VCR's manual to check.

Meh...technically, I don't even have a VCR. I use my housemate's. Whose manual has been lost in the Closet of No Return. *sigh* T'was worth a try. I will have to get my DS9 fix elsewhere.

Ask the tv expert.

[identity profile] wimmeke.livejournal.com 2003-05-26 02:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Allthough all I do is compiling the software that goes in TV's around here... So no active expertise, but we all got basic boot camp training on how tv's work in general.

Anyway, Europe uses PAL, belgium uses PAL-B as a format (close enough Sofie).

In the US it's NTSC, they are not convertible because you people have 60Hz power lines and us europeans have 50Hz power lines, as a result, your movies have 30Frames/Second and our movies have 25Frames/Second.

Thats why it doesn't work. I was asked by my Brazilian Friend to send her a tape of local tv-shows and programs before she moved over here, to get the idea.

Well, the only idea we got was that it didn't work. It's not just the video frames even, the sound is recorded in an entirely different way, so even if you could catch a glimpse of what is on the tape trough the noise, there would still be no sound.

See if your equipment supports the PAL/European format to be sure. The more advanced types could have internal converters, like if your VCR has over 4 heads, there is a small chance it might be supported. It might require a manual setting, and some equipment can be 'fooled' by selecting the 'right' installation country on the set ;-)

I hope that was not too much inside information ;-)

Not completely related to your post, but when you just wrote 'tapes' I remembered it (no comments on the state of my memory please *g*) - did you ever sent off that tape with the race? :)

(And even more unrelated - I just love that song!)

I did, actually. :) Mailed it on Monday, so it should be arriving soon.

Thank you, dear! :D Heh, it's scary how much I'm looking forward to watching the race in a foreign language.

If you gave me your PayPal sign in, I could send you the postage cost. (Because, I don't suppose you're really thrilled by the idea of trading with any other race. *gg*)

Again, thank you. You're a life saver! *hugs*

Dude, don't mention it. I'm sure there'll come a time when I need a favour from you, and if not, well, at the risk of sounding like a bad movie, Pay It Forward. :)
