I'm getting sick of fandom. All of it. Bcause it's just so fucking full of people who think that the right way to demonstrate how 'passionate' you are about your chosen fandom is to become all mouth-frothingly incoherent about it.
Am I frothing-at-the-mouth? I like to think I keep at least some semblance of coherence and logic. If I don't, it only further proves my point: fandom sucks.
And it's not always the fans. "It is absolutely essential that you respect my wishes." ?!?! Fucking Anne fucking Rice, man. Good thing I was never into that fandom!
Speaking of fandom, I feel like I should be more upset that Joey Ramone is dead. Because while I did feel bad about it, it didn't really hit me as hard as I feel it should've. Because I'm a punk. I should feel bad about one of my idols passing away. But I don't feel all that bad. Because, I guess, I'm not a fan-type person. And I'm much more of a London-style-punk, anyway.
Still, though, Mr Ramone, we'll fucking miss you, man!

Hm. "Absolutely Bitter Fans Against something-with-a-B"? I mean; come on. Wouldn't you just dig to be part of 'ABFAB'? The acronym'd just enhance the 'bitter wenches' vibe. <g>
Re: With tongue firmly in cheek...
Okay, that stinks too, but you can't say I didn't try. :-)

The date on that Anne Rice rant is over a year old--did she just now start coming down hard on the fansites or what? I'm confused. (But as I always loathed both Anne and her writing, it's not really any skin off my nose.) Someone really should keep a warning list of the lawsuit-happy writers/creators, BTW--Anne Rice, Harlan Ellison (*never* cross this guy, or even dare quoting him online, unless you love the inside of courtrooms), Terry Pratchett, there are a few others.
Re: With tongue firmly in cheek...
It just really pisses me off, because she's got absolutely no reason to suddenly come down on the fanficcers like this. Marion Zimmer-Bradley used to allow and encourage fanfic, until some fanficcer claimed she stole an idea for a novel from her and demanded 50% of the money made from that book and to be listed as co-author. I can understand how that would make someone turn their view on fanfic around. But fucking hell, like anyone'd be foolish enough to want to be listed as Anne Rice's co-author? Bitch. I bet she was just jealous cause some of the fanficcers outshine her by far. [I did read a bit of fanfic, and while there's a lot of crap, there's also some gems.]
There is a listing of the policies of various authors on the subject of fanfic here.

::ready to blow up::.... ARGH! Don't get me started!! >_<'' Anne bloody fucking Rice... been in the fandom 6 years, kept the fanfic archive for 5 years, and it is THE most fucking worthless thankless unappreciative fandom I've ever seen!! Not just Rice but the damn fans... ooohhh... don't get started... deep breaths...
Not that I've got issues... v_v
Slash fandoms in general irritate the heck out of me. Don't we have enough anti-slashers out there without getting up in arms with each other?! People shouldn't be flamed just because your kink isn't their kink or vice versa! Bitter slashers... yeah, that's us, alright. -_-

As for Mater herself - she's known about the fic for *years*. Since '95. She only cracked down and started throwing her lawyers around last year... gee, incidentally, at the same time she was about to venture into web publishing ala Stephen King. And suddenly she didn't want any competition out on the net. Things that make you go "hmmmmm".... >_<
(And I know one of those pages you pointed out mentioned the rumor about Mater throwing her legal hissyfit because she'd actually ripped off a fanfic for her newest work. The site called it just a rumor. But her latest book is a godawfully done piece of crap involving crossing over her vampire series with her witch series, in which the lovely young witch - who SCREAMS formula Mary Sue worse then any 13 year old's first fanfic - runs off with the vampire Louis. From '95 to now, I can point out at least 6 fics who have done more or less the same thing, one of them my own very first one, and all of them have done it better then that piece of tripe Mater put out on the market!)
