Okay okay, as someone who's taken the next step after SI and yet is still here to give a piece of her mind... Here goes: You NEVER tell somebody this fucking depressed how self-pitying and whining they are and to just fucking get better. Because you're going to drive them right next to that second step. You know why? 'cause you're re-enforcing what they're feeling. That they're worthless. That they have no value in life. That life would be much better off without them. It's not a pity me deal, it's a 'I'm trash and bringing everybody else down so maybe everybody else will be better off when I'm dead'.

You want to know HOW to help an SI? You fucking well guilt trip them into not taking that second step. You tell them how terrible your life would be without them in it. You tell them that you couldn't face a day without them in it. They'll never agree with you, but they're damn well listening. A real SI replaces their own self worth with the worth of other people, you damn well take advantage of that if you want to help.

You want to help, give them a fucking reason to stay alive.
