(no subject)

So gran, as grandmothers are wont to do, insists on buying me stuff. Lots of stuff. Since I own pretty much every material thing I need (except for a better computer, which I feel would be a bit much to ask for), I hate clothes shopping, and I prefer to buy my own books, that leaves food. And now, yarn. Lots of yarn. Random yarn. And needles, and assorted stuff. I now own a huge ball (skein?) of dark teal yarn. Not enough for a jumper, and they only had the one, but still, pretty! And a £0.50 random leftover ball of rainbow yarn, and black yarn and double pointed needles for gloves, and tomorrow we're going shopping for yarn for the HP scarves (BRONZE YARN YOU CANNOT ESCAPE ME FOREVER!) and for my Weasley jumper, and I plan to latch onto any prettu-looking cheapish yarn she'll buy me and stock up for a while.

... Which, um, means I'll need new ideas and patterns and stuff. Right now, my main problem is that I really don't have that many clothes, and I don't want that many clothes, and I don't need more than one scarf and hat, and a pair of gloves, and there's only so many socks I can knit and/or scarves I can make you lot and/or pullovers I can force onto my brothers and whatnot.

All of which is my roundabout way of asking for knitting community recommendations. Something fannish-raleted would be nice, and if anyone knows of a good place to find things to knit that could be used for LARPing, I'd love that.

And costume-wise...

There are a lot of capelets around -- things that tie around the neck and keep the shoulders warm.

My friend knit fingerless gloves for a Gandalf-esque costume (to wear under her cloak).

Oh, and the suits of armor in Monty Python and the Holy Grail? Knitted and spray-painted silver. Gotta love small budgets!

Oooh, Gandalf gloves sound good, too. And I think at my LARP in Belgium, people had the spray-painted knitting "chainmail" too. That might be a good idea.
