Great Spring Cleaning Offensive of '07 update: Mission Accomplished. Took me until 2 AM last night, because I'd slacked off on Saturday -- although to be fair, by the time I'd managed to get all my Boxes o' Crap back up on the shelf where they belong, I'd pretty much depleted my energy levels, because holy shit. Also, note to self: Your big blue suitcase contains a bunch of things you're holding onto for Anna and Don. Remember this for next time, so you don't expect it to be empty and nearly kill yourself dead because you're not expectiong the weight. *facepalm*

Handwarmers update: still MIA; missing, presumed dead. :( And trust me, I looked everywhere in the flat, up to and including behind/under the fridge. there was ... an impressive amount of gunk there, but no handwarmers. I'm at a loss of WTF happened to them, though. unless I left them at my mum's, but I'd think she'd have come across them by now, then. Bleh.

My slacking off on Saturday did lead to one productive thing though, as I stumbled across some tutorials about how to "ink" in PhotoShop using the pen tool. I've experimented a bit, and I think this will be incredibly helpful -- I can draw ... minimally, but it's still better than my inking skills, which are nonexistant, what with the lack of steady hands and stuff. So, experimental doodling time!

Well, after I do these two hours of training, anyway. By which I mean, of course, "After I stretch out less than an hour of material over two hours somehow." Powers of bullshitting, activate!

First of all: obligatory food post of the day. I'm thinking of doing pseudo-sushi some time this week -- stuffing wraps and slicing them into "sushi", and doing the same with pancakes for sweetness, something like that. Nor sure what I'd use, though. Suggestions welcome!

Monday Morning Co_Worker Weirdness: The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air rap in Italian. Er, yes. I-- What?

Oh and here, have a dangerously cute icon.

Meme from [livejournal.com profile] unloveablehands: Explain three interests and three icons.

In which we learn that everything is always Amy's fault. )

Wanna play? Comment and I'll give you three interests and three icons to explain.

For the purpose of trying out my new flickr account, have some random pictures of my desk at work!

I got my first box of organic fruit and veg yesterday, and I'm thrilled with it. Wee apples! Interesting new stuff! there are edible flowers in there, people! And something I'm fairly sure is fresh spinach, and also long black and green beans, which if anyone could tell me (from the picture I just linked, which admittedly is rather bad quality) what those are so I can google some recipes, I would be very grateful.

(Also, is there a way to blog more than one picture at a time? And/or blog pictures including the notes?)

Oh and I'll be posting this to my knitting journal as well, but I thought you all might enjoy what I made for [livejournal.com profile] padredon as well: Snake on a Cane! ([livejournal.com profile] troubleinchina, if you (or [livejournal.com profile] padredon) can send me a decent quality pic of it, I'll make you that icon!)

Also, hi! I'm back! And not catching up on the LJ I missed this past week, so let me know what I missed if it's important, or even if it's not.

[ETA] Okay, this (gacked from [livejournal.com profile] sonatine is disturbing. (Worksafe, not so much sanity-safe.) [/ETA]

Bugger, bugger, bugger. Folks, is.net and femgeeks are both down for the next few days until I get paid and can pay this overdue bill I stupidly forgot about. E-mail works, but unfortunately this does mean I cannot, for example, access my plotting wiki. This makes me a very sad Melle. Woe.

[ETA] OH FUCKING GREAT! Now the e-mail isn't working anymore, either. Please to be directing any and all communications to femgeeks[at]gmail[dot]com until further notice. [/ETA]

So, anyway, who wants to make me an icon of Barty Crouch, Jr. and his wand, and the caption "This could be more sonic."?

( May. 24th, 2006 08:53 am)

Dear weather: I can deal with sunshine. I can deal with punishing winds. But both at the same time? No. This whole "Blow Melle's sunglasses off" thing has got to go.

And then I accidentally deleted my /random folder, including my randsig file. Arse!

In happier news, I have two new icons, somewhat belatedly cut because one of them could be vaguely spoilery for The Age of Steel. )

You can see more pictures of me and my sword (bweee!), this time in more appropriate clothes as well, here. Also, a picture of my dad which proves that I have vampire genes. (No, seriously.)

I just had a Mrs Norris on the phone. Hee hee. Heeeeee!

[ETA] Have lost ability to spell "problem" in Dutch. Samson ate my brain! </Belgian> [/ETA]

I assume you've all seen this by now, so I'll just note that the title of the entry makes me think of Brokeback Mountain. At times, "I wish I knew how to quit you" really does describe my relationship with fanfiction. Usually, it just describes my relationship with fanfiction.net, though. :D

Dear snow: I like you, but I prefer you when I don't have to venture outside. This whole sneaking up on my in the night thing? Not funny. Making me slip the moment I step outside, forcing me to do aa slapstick routine trying to avoid actually falling on my arse and getting my trousers wet? Also not funny. Stop it, dammit!

*eyes 136 icon slots, whimpers* I cannae take the pressure, Cap'n! *flails*

Logging system: still arse. It's either really fucking slow, or it's its usual kinda slow, but with a side order of page/javascript errors every two clicks. Haaaaate.

*pokes [livejournal.com profile] the_cortex, whinges* Updaaaaaate!

I'm hungry and bored. Woe is me.

First things first: GIP! Idea by me, execution by [livejournal.com profile] carelessmemory, who is easy to bully. :D

Conversation in f_w has led me to wanting to put the Firefly characters in Hogwarts. Dear self: No.

*pokes around the internet for a decent online DnD game* Okay, if the GM can't spell, I'm not joining, dammit. Which cuts out ... pretty much all of the games I've just looked at. Crap.

GIP! Proving once again that [livejournal.com profile] ruby_fruit and I should really be kept away from each other.:D *whacks internet with stick, waits for porn to fall out* Feh. People need to get with the program and start writing stories according to my whims, dammit!

Oh, god, I'm going to kill my co-workers one of these days. We got an e-mail today from management asking us to log what we're doing that's not directly customer-related (and thus not logged in the logging system). My co-workers? Have been bitching about this for the last fifteen minutes. "Blah blah blah I'm tired of them checking up on us and blah blah blah micromanagingcakes," and the fact that they want this logged because otherwise they can't bill the client for our time, which they need to be able to do in order to, you know, pay us, doesn't seem to have occured to then, apparently. These people are supposed to be my age, but they're acting like a bunch of spoiled teenagers, and god.

Okay, to be fair, I've been out in the work force a fair bit longer than most of them, but still. Once you've reached the ripe old age of 25, you need to learn to stop bitching about this shit, consider that not everything management does is a personal slight against you, and grow the fuck up. Or at least stop bitching about it out loud, dammit--can't they get a livejournal like normal people? God.

(If they wanted to bitch about something, they cuold at least pick something worthwhile, like the moronic dress code or something.)

*shakes memory stick like a baby* Unhand my WiP, you knave!

Oh, also, stolen from [livejournal.com profile] carelessmemory: In this post, talk with your icons, and *only* your icons. Post early, post often, and respond to whomever you want. Just leave a dot or a dash in the comment field when LJ tells you you can't post a blank comment.

( Jan. 27th, 2006 09:46 am)

I'm boooored. *pokes the internet* Somebody entertain meeee! I hate work. Haaaaate!

[ETA] I tried doing that "You know you're reading a story by me thing, and so far I've come up with:

  1. It's more than probably either slash, or pre-slashy gennishness;
  2. It will involve people who, canonically, either hate each other's guts, or don't have any actual interaction at all;
  3. Either that, or Weasleys and/or that Lee Jordan fellow;
  4. Woobification of Big Dangerous characters likely occurs;
  5. If it's het, it's creepy;
  6. It's dialogue-heavy;
  7. There's lots of attempts at wit, or at the very least lines that are all but jumping up and down, waving their arms and shouting "QUOTE ME OMG QUOTE MEEEE WHY WON'T YOU QUOTE ME I'M FUNNY AREN'T I?";
  8. There will be a decided lack of porn;
  9. If there is porn, it's all wannabe-literary;
  10. There's almost a year between the "start" date in the headers and when it's actually posted.

Anyone else wanna add something? :D [/ETA]

[ETA2] Oh, god. Today's Icon Of The Day:

So fucking true.

And why are my co-workers talking about "the real cheese"? I think perhaps I need to brush up on my French. o_O [/ETA2]

bubosquared: (ramblin' mind)
( Jan. 25th, 2006 09:36 am)

One of these days, I'm going to stuff my yarn down my co-workers's throats if they don't pipe the fuck down. *growls at them* (Yes, I'm being passive-agressive at them and coughing loudly whenever they start singing/yelling at each other again. I don't care. Fie on them I say!)

Link of the Day: From the people who brought you Laaaaaance in Spaaaaaace: Lance Bass sets self on fire over dildo. Ah, popslash. You just can't make this shit up, people!

Hey Firefly folks, can anyone rec me some nice Simon&Jayne friendship fics? (Yes, I am that desperate. Hush, dammit!) And while I'm on the subject, best Firefly icon ever:

bubosquared: (political)
( Jun. 8th, 2005 11:59 am)

[livejournal.com profile] krazycat tagged me, so here, have a meme. )

Tag six other people to take this meme.

Hm, let's see, who hasn't taken this yet ... [livejournal.com profile] babyofthegroup, [livejournal.com profile] carelessmemory, [livejournal.com profile] deepsix, [livejournal.com profile] elance, [livejournal.com profile] jamaisneutral, and [livejournal.com profile] ruby_fruit.

Another meme, cut for image. )

The current User Friendly storyline (starting here) is amusing me greatly because it rings so true. (I had to deal with pretty much exactly that for three years, remember, and yes, people do indeed act like that.)

In less amusing news, and the reason for the use of my politics icon*, Didier Reynders can bite me. As I ranted at poor [livejournal.com profile] jamaisneutral:

WTF? "Evaluate" gay marriages? Why? I just. I can't even fucking articulate how pissed off I am. The bloody CD&V is in favour, for fuck's sake, but Mr Reynders has to go and be a fucknuggety twat and ARGH!

The CD&V is the Christian centre-rightish party, for the non-Belgians amongst you. Reynders is supposed to be a liberal. And his nonsense about public opinion and queer couples adopting is bad enough, but I can't even read his "We should evaluate same-sex marriage" statement without seeing red, spluttering incoherently, and failing to make any sort of sense. Maybe once I've calmed down I'll be able to formulate a proper rant, but for now, you'll just have to imagine my primal scream.

Fucking hell.

* Which randomly reminds me, with 100 icon slots, I probably need Even More New Icons, and new and improved versions of the older ones. Something to ponder. Need to burn the images I have on my home computer to disk for use at work, I think.

Wrists: much better, yay! Now to keep them that way.

I need to make new icons to replace the ones with the dreads. Or at the very least a new default one. And a new HP one. And I need to delete a couple of icons I don't use anymore, because I'm now at 42 out of 50 icon slots used. Yikes! I also need a history geek icon. *eyes PhotoShop* I wonder if I can 'shop my head onto Indiana Jones' body ...

My webmail is playing silly buggers with me. Grrrr. *stabbity*

bubosquared: (ramblin' mind)
( May. 27th, 2005 02:57 pm)

Just a heads-up: I'm likely to be offline most of this weekend, for a number of reasons, but mostly because a) I have a bunch of offline stuff I need to get done, and b) I need to give my wrists a rest, because my RSI has been flaring up thanks to the stupid desk at work. (I finally managed to find a way to sit ar this desk without straining my wrists, but if I don't let them rest now, they won't heal, so.) Not that anyone would miss me, and depending on the state of my wrists, I might get on for a while anyway, but you know.

So I've been keeping myself entertained at work this week by reading the [livejournal.com profile] stupidpetowners archives, and I feel the need to share this gem. I don't think you have to even vaguely know how to take care of pets in order to enjoy that one, because ... really, now.

Also amusing, for the Dr Who fans on my friendslist:

I totally forgot to mention that I saw The Hitch Hiker's Guide To The Galaxy with [livejournal.com profile] elance last week, and loved it. As I said to E afterwards, if this movie doesn't spawn a whole lot of slash, I'll be sorely disappointed in fandom. So, um. Anyone have any recs for m? Ford/Arthur preferred, but any will do, because woa. They couldn't have made that movie more subtexty if they tried!

Also, I caught the tail end of an item on this on the morning news, and um. The hell? They'll take my chef's knife from me when they pry it from my cold, dead hands, dammit! I use that thing, and I use it a hell of a lot more than I do my bread knife or any the smaller, "potato peeler" knives.
